Game Summary
October 26 - Citadel had only one game left for the season this past Sunday against Columbus at Kreager. Regardless of what happened, the girls would finish 5th in the GIRLS League 1st Divison. Not too bad for their first season with 8 v 8, larger field, new coach, etc. Regardless, the girls wanted to finish on a high note. Fortunately, that was the case on Sunday as the girls played very well and were able to win against Columbus 5-0. Coach Sal decided to mix things up for this last game of the season with players playing in many different positions. In fact, two of the goals scored were by girls that are typically defense and had been given the opportunity to play offense/midfield. So, it made for a fun day and a great end to the season.
Fall Season Wrap-up - Despite not finishing at the top of the league, the girls learned a lot and still have loads of potential. The season started well with a Genesee Cup championship. The GIRLS league schedule pitted Citadel against the toughest teams in the league first and one can argue that the girls played their toughest games while still trying to figure out their team and coach. Despite going 4-3-1, all three losses were only by one goal! They finished the season with three straight wins - all in convincing fashion. Citadel defeated a Center Grove team that finished 2nd at 6-2. The girls played well at the Nike Cup in Chicago against outstanding competition, but unfortunately went 0-2-1 in that tournament. The last game in that tournament was against one of the most "physical" teams the girls have ever played and our girls dominated skill wise to forge a 0-0 tie. As has been the case all along for this team, they don't have a ton of speed and are mostly finesse, but most observers note they play with a lot of soccer skill. They have done well with passing and receiving, moving the ball around, spreading the field, finding the open player, and dribbling. These are the things they need to be learning at this age and these are the things that will help make this a better team in the future. The girls have plenty of training scheduled for the winter and expect to have fun and continued success in the Spring.

Homework from Coach Sal
Keep working on the running, juggling, and footskill assignment from Coach Sal. Make sure your girls mark down their accomplishments on their sheet so he can see your daughter's progress. The girls need to be in shape for the larger fields this season and you can never get enough footwork, so this is something easy to do at home that will continue to benefit your player.
